Veterans Highway ruts being repaired
Drivers who dread those ruts in the pavement along Veterans Memorial Highway will be relieved to learn sections of Route 75 between Bay Roberts and Carbonear are being repaired this summer.
Approximately 6.6 lane-kilometers will be repaired, according to the minister of Transportation and Works.
Tom Hedderson said sections of the TCH between the Holyrood access road and Whitbourne, totalling approximately 22 lane- kilometers are also having ruts repaired.
Describing the areas as among “the highest-travelled sections of highway in our province,” the Harbour Main MHA suggested, “the repairs will help improve the driving experience for many commuters.”
Some $165.1 million was earmarked in this year’s provincial budget to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, including $60.1 million for the provincial roads improvement program. The feds also contribute another $60 million for a total of $225.1 million in 2012-13.
