Some close matches in Carbonear softball league action
On July 25, Butt’s Esso won a shootout with East Coast Concrete by a score of 17-11 in Carbonear Men’s Slopitch action at the Carbonear Recreation Complex.
Charl Clarke led the offensive charge for Butt’s, picking up four hits, including a home run. Jody Doyle also had four hits, while Blair Parsons and Gerard Griffin had three hits apiece. Jason Power, Marty Tilly, Ryan Dean and Mat Davis had two hits each.
Leading East Coast at the plate was Gord King and Phil Hurley. Each picked up three hits in defeat.
Gerard Griffin toed the rubber for the win, and Sam White took the loss.
In Butt’s second game of the evening, the team defeated West Side Charlie’s by a score of 8-3.
Blair Parsons, Dennis King and Chad Parsons had three hits apiece, while Jason Power and Charl Clarke contributed two hits in the win.
For West Side, Frank Finlayson paced the offense with three hits while Roy Flight and Paul Sullican had two hits each.
Gerard Griffin picked up his second win of the night on the mound, and Mike Whiteway took the loss.
Earlier in the week, West Side beat out East Coast by a score of 10-6.
Frank Finlayson had three hits for the winners, while Paul O’Leary, Roy Flight, Paul Sullivan, Sam White and Paul R O’Leary had two hits apiece.
For the losers, Brad Gallant lead the way with four hits, while Phil Hurley and Bradley Harris had two hits each.
Sam White picked up the pitching win, and Dennis King took the loss.
The second game of the night saw East Coast suffer its second loss of the night with a 5-3 defeat to Butt’s.
Butt’s was lead at the dish by Blair Parsons with three hits. Charl Clarke and Chad Parsons had two hits each in victory.
Brad Gallant led East Coast with four hits. Chris Parsons and Bradley Harris had two hits apiece.
