Some close matches in Car­bon­ear soft­ball league ac­tion

On July 25, Butt’s Esso won a shootout with East Coast Con­crete by a score of 17-11 in Car­bon­ear Men’s Slo­p­itch ac­tion at the Car­bon­ear Re­cre­ation Com­plex.

Charl Clarke led the offensive charge for Butt’s, pick­ing up four hits, in­clud­ing a home run. Jody Doyle also had four hits, while Blair Par­sons and Ger­ard Grif­fin had three hits apiece. Ja­son Power, Marty Tilly, Ryan Dean and Mat Davis had two hits each.

Lead­ing East Coast at the plate was Gord King and Phil Hur­ley. Each picked up three hits in de­feat.

Ger­ard Grif­fin toed the rub­ber for the win, and Sam White took the loss.

In Butt’s sec­ond game of the evening, the team de­feated West Side Char­lie’s by a score of 8-3.

Blair Par­sons, Den­nis King and Chad Par­sons had three hits apiece, while Ja­son Power and Charl Clarke con­trib­uted two hits in the win.

For West Side, Frank Fin­layson paced the of­fense with three hits while Roy Flight and Paul Sul­li­can had two hits each.

Ger­ard Grif­fin picked up his sec­ond win of the night on the mound, and Mike White­way took the loss.

Ear­lier in the week, West Side beat out East Coast by a score of 10-6.

Frank Fin­layson had three hits for the win­ners, while Paul O’Leary, Roy Flight, Paul Sul­li­van, Sam White and Paul R O’Leary had two hits apiece.

For the losers, Brad Gal­lant lead the way with four hits, while Phil Hur­ley and Bradley Har­ris had two hits each.

Sam White picked up the pitch­ing win, and Den­nis King took the loss.

The sec­ond game of the night saw East Coast suf­fer its sec­ond loss of the night with a 5-3 de­feat to Butt’s.

Butt’s was lead at the dish by Blair Par­sons with three hits. Charl Clarke and Chad Par­sons had two hits each in vic­tory.

Brad Gal­lant led East Coast with four hits. Chris Par­sons and Bradley Har­ris had two hits apiece.

Ger­ard Grif­fin picked up the win and Sam White took the loss.

In Wed­nes­day’s first match Butt’s Esso slipped by West Side Char­lie’s 8-6 in Car­bon­ear Men’s Slo­p­itch ac­tion at the Car­bon­ear Re­cre­tion Com­plex, July 18.

Blair Par­sons paced the of­fense for Butt’s with three hits. Marty Tilly and Ja­son Power had two each, while Stephen Peach, Ryan Par­sons, Ryan Dean, Jody Doyle and Charl Clarke each added sin­gles in help­ing with the win.

Top bat­ters for West Side were Frank Fin­layson, Paul Sul­li­van and Paul O’Leary with three hits each. Kevin Pen­ney and Roy Flight had two each. Tim Brake, Ce­cil Tay­lor, Paul McCarthy and Keith Ped­dle had one each in a los­ing cause.

East Coast Con­crete edged West Side 7-6 in Wed­nes­day’s sec­ond con­test.

Blair Par­sons toed the rub­ber for the win, while Sam White suf­fered the pitch­ing loss.

Butt’s up­ended East Coast by a score of 8-2 on Mon­day, July 16.
