Roadwork continues in Conception-trinity area

The Compass - - OPINION -

Tenders have been called for the upgrading and paving of approximately 1.3 kilometers of the main Conception Bay North highway (Route 70) between Salmon Cove and Perry’s Cove. Repaving will also take place on a section of the Heart’s Content barrens (Route 74).

Welcoming the upgrades to these “welltravelled routes,” Trinity-Bay de Verde MHA Charlene Johnson described the work as “important projects that will help maintain a quality road network in our region.”

Upgrading and paving of two sections of the Bareneed Road (Route 72) in the district of Port de Grave is also included in the tender.

“Pleased to see this work will be completed in our area,” Port de Grave MHA Glenn Little- john, said in the same news release: “There is a significant amount of commercial activity… in the area” and the work is a sign of government’s recognition of its importance to the area’s economy.

Transportation Minister, Tom Hedderson said the project “will see road upgrades and drainage system repairs that will directly benefit communities and help maintain the integrity of transportation links on the Avalon Peninsula.”

The Harbour Main MHA said the work is being carried out under the $60-million, 2012 provincial roads improvement program.
