Butt’s goes undefeated in softball action
Butt’s Esso put a hurting on East Coast Concrete, defeating East Coast 16-1 in the first game of Carbonear Men’s Slopitch League action Aug. 15 at the Carbonear Recreation Complex.
Leading the offensive destruction for Butt’s were Charl Clarke and Dennis King with four hits apiece. Chad Parsons, Stephen Peach, Luke Hogan and Jody Doyle had three hits each, while Blair Parsons and Marty Tilly picked up two hits.
Brad Gallant had two hits for the losers, while Stephen King and Bradley Harris had a single hit each.
Gerard Griffin toed the rubber in victory, and Stephen King took the loss.
The offensive punch for Butt’s carried over to the next game against West Side Charlie’s after Butt’s dropped West Side, 10-3.
Blair Parsons, Charl Clarke and Jason Power picked up three hits each to pace the attack for Butt’s. Mat Davis, Stephen Peach, Marty Tilly, Jody Doyle and Jeff Parsons had single hits for the victors.
West Side was lead at the plate by Frank Finlayson and Kevin Penney, who had three hits apiece. Roy Flight, Paul Sullivan and Keith Peddle each had two hits.
Gerard Griffin picked up his second pitching victory of the night, and Sam White took the loss.
Earlier in the week, West Side got by East Coast, 9-6 on Aug. 13.
Leading the way for West Side was Frank Finlayson, Paul McCarthy and Cecil Taylor with two hits each.
Christ White was tops at the plate for East Coast, picking up three hits.
Sam White picked up the pitching win, and Stephen King suffered the loss.
In the second game of the night, Butt’s Esso upended East Coast by a score of 10-2.
Charl Clark, Dennis King, Jason Power and Mat Davis each picked up three hits for the winners.
Leading the way at the plate for East Coast were Phil Hurley, Chris White and Jamie Pike, who contributed two hits apiece.
