Butt’s Esso goes 4-1 in men’s slo-pitch action
Butt’s Esso upended West Side Charlie’s 7-3 in Carbonear Slopitch Softball League action at the Carbonear Recreation Complex, Aug. 29.
Dennis King paced the offense for Butt’s, picking up two hits, one of which was a homerun. Stephen Peach, Jeff Parsons and Gerard Griffin also had two hits apiece.
For West Side, Mat Powell had three hits, while Brad Gallant and Gord King had two hits in the loss.
Griffin took the win, while Sam White suffered the loss.
In the second game of the evening, West Side managed to sneak by East Coast Concrete by a score of 8-7.
West Side wsas led by Kevin Penney, Mike Whiteway, Paul McCarthy and Roy Flight, who picked up three hits apiece. Cecil Taylor and Paul Sullivan contributed two hits each.
Mat Powell picked up three hits for East Coast to led the charge at the plate. Brad Gallant and Gord King each contributed two hits.
Sam White toed the rubber for the win, and Jim King took the loss.
Butt’s battered East Coast 10-2 in the first game on Aug. 27.
Charl Clarke and Blair Parsons led the way for Butt’s, picking up three hits apiece. Chad Parsons and Jason Power had two hits each, and Stephen Peach belted a homerun in the victory.
At the plate for East Coast, Gord King led the charge with two hits, while Phil Hurley, Shannon Chafe and Brad Gallant had one hit in the loss.
Gerard Griffin pitched the win, and Jim King took the loss.
In the second game of the night, Butt’s again picked up a victory, this time squeking out a 7-6 win over West Side.
Butt’s were paced by Jeff Parsons at the dish, as he picked up three hits. Blair Parsons and Chad Parsons contributed one hit apiece.
Leading the losers were Kevin Penney and Sam White, who had three hits each. Tim Brake reached twice with two hits.
Griffin again picked up the victory, while Sam White suffered the loss.
Due to the 2012 NL Summer Games, prior to action on Aug. 27, the league last played on Aug. 16. In the first game of the night, West Side got by Butt’s in a close 2-1 affair.
For West Side, Paul O’Leary had three hits and Roy Flight had two hits to lead the way.
Marty Tilly had two hits in defeat, while Charl Clarke, Dennis King, Jason Power, Stephen Peach and Jody Doyle had one hit apiece.
White toed the rubber in victory, and Griffin took the loss.
It was a different result for West Side in the second game, as East Coast battered the losers, 12-3.
East Coast were led at the plate by Brad Gallant, who had five hits. Bradley harris, Jim King, Jamie Pike and Gord King each had three hits, while Chris Parsons had two hits each.
Kevin Penney had three hits for the losers, while Cecil Taylor, Sam White and Keith Peddle had one hit each.
Jim King picked up the win on the bump, while White took the loss.
