Butt’s Esso cap­tures soft­ball ti­tle

Butt’s Esso was crowned cham­pi­ons of the Car­bon­ear men’s slo­p­itch soft­ball league af­ter sweep­ing West Side Char­lie’s 3-0 in the be­stof- five se­ries at the Car­bon­ear Re­cre­ation Com­plex on Sept 11.

In the de­cid­ing game, Butt’s dec­i­mated West Side by a score of 15-3 to se­cure the ti­tle.

Jeff Par­sons, Steven Peach and Marty Tilly sparked the of­fense for Butt’s, pick­ing up three hits apiece. Charl Clarke, Blair Par­sons, Ja­son Power, Ger­ard Grif­fin and Jody Doyle had two hits in the vic­tory.

The top offensive force for West Side was Frank Fin­layson, who had three hits.

Ger­ard Grif­fin toed the rub­ber for the win, and Sam White took the loss.

In Game 2 on Sept. 11, Butt’s nar­rowly bested West Side, 11-7.

Chad Par­sons led the way for Butt’s, pick­ing up three hits. Also chip­ping in were Steven Peach, Ger­ard Grif­fin and Marty Tilly, with two hits.

For West Side, Scott Cleary had three hits at the plate. Kevin Pen­ney, John Jaques and Roy Flight also had two hits.

Butt’s opened the cham­pi­onship se­ries by squeaking by West Side 76 on Sept. 10.

Lead­ing Butt’s offensive charge were Blair Par­sons, Chad Par­sons and Luke Ho­gan, with two hits each.

Frank Fin­layson picked up three hits in the loss.

Mem­bers of the cham­pi­onship team in­clude the fol­low­ing: Charl Clarke, Blair Par­sons, Den­nis King, Jeff Par­sons, Steven Peach, Ja­son Power, Chad Par­sons, Mat Davis, Ger­ard Grif­fin, Jody Doyle, Marty Tilley, Ryan Par­sons, Luke Ho­gan and Ryan Dean.

West Side and East Coast Con­crete squared off in the best-of-five semi­fi­nal se­ries for the chance to meet Butt’s in the fi­nals. West Side moved on af­ter a thrilling 3-2 se­ries win.

In Game 5 on Sept 10, West Side bested East Coast in a close 4-3 win.

Frank Fin­layson and Scott Cleary led the way with two hits apiece.

Top hit­ters for East Coast were Jeremy Doyle, Phil Hur­ley and Chris White with two hits each.

Sam White pitched the vic­tory, and Stephen King took the loss.

On Sept. 5, both teams met in Game 4 with the East Coast trail­ing in the se­ries 2-1. East Coast pro­duced a 3-1 vic­tory to even the se­ries.

Chirs Par­sons led the charge at the plate with two hits, while Brad Gal­lant, Jim King, Gord King, Phil Hur­ley and Bradley Har­ris had one hit apiece in the win.

Frank Fin­layson and Mike White­way had two hits in the loss.

Stephen King toed the rub­ber in vic­tory and Sam White suf­fered the de­feat.

In Game 3, East Coast got back into the se­ries af­ter dou­bling up West Side 4-2.

Jim King led the charge at the plate for East Coast with three hits, while Chad Par­sons had two hits.

For West Side, Paul McCarthy led the way with three hits.

West Side went up 2-0 on East Coast af­ter tak­ing Game 2 with an 8-2 vic­tory on Sept. 4.

Kevin Pen­ney had three hits in the win. For East Coast, Jim King and Jeremy Doyle had two hits apiece.

West Side got out to a good start against East Coast with a 5-3 vic­tory to take a 1-0 semi­fi­nal se­ries lead, also on Sept. 4.

For the win­ners, Tim Brake and Kevin Pen­ney had three hits apiece, while lead­ing the charge for East Coast were Mike Squires, Stephen King and Chris White with two hits each.
