Two bronze for Team NL
Teams from this province captured two bronze medals at the Atlantic Challenge Cup tournament held in Moncton, N.B. Oct. 5-8.
The male under-14 team captured third place, besting Team Prince Edward Island 3-2 in the bronze medal game on Oct. 8 at the Red Ball Intranet Centre in Moncton. Mark Barrett of Spaniard’s Bay scored the game winner. The team also featured Noah Mercer of Bay Roberts.
The other team to capture a medal was the female under-15 squad. In the bronze medal game, Team NL again bested Team PEI. This time the score was 4-3 for the victors. Local players on the team were Shelby Batten (Bareneed), Emma Russell (Blaketown) and Kaitlyn Mayne (Hopeall).
The female under-17 team was narrowly defeated in the bronze medal game by PEI, 5-3. Bay Roberts’ Natalie Keeping was the sole local player on the team.
The male under-15 team went winless in the tournament, going 04 including the bronze medal match against New Brunswick. Team NL was thumped 8-3 in the game. Bay Roberts’ Charlie Spicer and Lucas March of Green’s Harbour were the local representatives.
