Angel Fund event a huge success
rganizers are describing the fourth Survivors, Pink Ribbons and Angels fashion show and silent auction as an overwhelming success. The glitzy event was staged at Ascension Collegiate in Bay Roberts on Tuesday, Oct. 9, and raised some $26,000 in support of the first Newfoundland and Labrador chapter of The Angel Fund. The fund was created by entrepreneur Elizabeth Pilgrim, and provides financial assistance to those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Since its inception, nearly $130,000 has been raised, and several dozen families along the Baccalieu Trail have received help for everything from travel costs and wigs to childcare services and groceries. The fashion show and silent auction attracted a full house of 400 guests, in addition to some 100 volunteers. The MC was St. John’s Centre MHA and breast cancer survivor Gerry Rogers, and Newfoundland singing sensation Rex Goudie was a special guest performer. Pilgrim, who is one of seven core organizers of the event, said she was “overwhelmed” by the level of support. For more photos, see slideshow
