Telethon ‘best by far’
23rd televised fundraiser brings in record amount for health foundation
There were many memorable and heart-warming moments during the 23rd Trinity Conception Placentia Health Foundation’s telethon on Oct. 14, and Helen Clarke was lucky enough to witness them all.
Clarke is chair of the foundation’s board of directors, and also played a very large role in the event, which was televised by Eastlink throughout the region.
She was especially moved by an $11,000-plus donation from a group described as “Friends of Kelly’s Landing,” which presented in memory of the late Dale Gosse of Harbour Grace.
Gosse was an entrepreneur and an active supporter of the foundation. He was just 44 years-of-age when he died of cancer.
The fundraiser was hosted by Donna Fowler, owner of Kelly’s Landing in Bay Roberts, and her daughter Kelly, Dale’s widow.
“That was so touching. He was so well-known,” Clarke said.
Clarke used words such as “fantastic” and “overwhelming” when asked to comment on the record pledges made to the telethon, which was staged at Amalgamated Academy in Bay Roberts with an army of some 500 volunteers helping make it happen.
