Clarke’s Beach council making national headlines

The Compass - - FRONT PAGE -

The buzz over an ongoing dispute between Clarke’s Beach Mayor Betty Moore and other members of the town council reached new heights last week following the publication of a provocative article in McLean’s, a national magazine.

The article was headlined “Meet Betty Moore, mayor of Canada’s most dysfunctional municipality,” and painted a disturbing portrait of the town’s elected leaders, and their ability to work together. The article featured comments from Mayor Moore, who has been completely isolated by her six colleagues, and Deputy Mayor Kevin Hussey, who has been especially critical of Moore’s style of leadership.

The article prompted reports from other provincial media outlets, was generating buzz on several open line radio shows, and was topof-mind among many citizens in the region.

The situation in Clarke’s Beach has also generated its fair share of headlines in The Compass, and has overshadowed the many positive things happening in the growing com- munity.

In a bid to set the record straight, Hussey and five other members of council fired back with a letter to the editor (see Page A4). Letters from two other Clarke’s Beach residents can also be found in this edition.
