New game in town

Bay Arena joins peewee A provincial league

High-level peewee hockey will be making its way back to the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts this season.

The Bay Arena minor peewee A team has entered into an agreement with teams from Corner Brook, Gander and Clarenville for the formation of the AllNewfoundland Peewee League.

The pilot project will consist of 24 league games with the possibility of there being a league championship.

“We’re really not sure right now, but I’m sure we will end up having a league cham- pionship towards the end, but what it is right now is a league where we’re going to get together … and have 24 games of good, quality hockey, which we didn’t have last year,” said Bay Arena peewee A head coach Bo Bennett.

The format for the league looks similar to what is currently found in the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League.

While only two teams play in one arena on any given weekend on the senior circuit, the peewee league would see all associations converge in one rink for the purpose of having a day of competitive hockey.
