Carbonear council critic has her say
I would like to comment on the spending of our tax dollars by the Carbonear council since I took up residence here.
Recently, they have purchased two new dump trucks, four new pickup trucks, one sport utility vehicle, a Nortrac John Deere 624K, also a new logo to represent our town, and they want to upgrade the Princess Sheila Theatre because it wasn’t done right in the beginning.
There is talk about helping Harbour Grace with the arena, but was there any help from them with the pool here? Are the residents going to have any say in this like we did with the town logo?
There was a lot of controversy over the crane up on the saddle. It was called an eyesore and the council wanted it removed. What about the building beside the stone jug, the old meal plant and the train engine down by the civic centre? They have talked about this in the council chambers but nothing has been done.
There was some contract work done on a road a year ago. It still needs work, because it wasn’t completed properly. There are stop signs and road signs that are missing, residents have complained about work around their homes that has not been completed properly by the town, and this has been ongoing for very long time.
There is another thing I would like to say in closing. The council was asked when they were voted in about a skate board park for the children here in Carbonear. It has been talked about since this council took office. What has happened to it?
What I think is coming out of our council chambers is “frivolous flap.”
