Alex Neil wins five medals

Po­sei­don to host swim meet be­gin­ning Nov. 30

Alex Neil of Bay Roberts led the way for the Po­sei­don Swim Club at the Hick­man Au­to­mo­tive Group Fall Clas­sic 2012 in St. John’s from Nov. 9-11.

Neil cap­tured five medals — three gold, one sil­ver and one bronze — in the fe­male 10-and-un­der division.

She placed first in the 50-me­tre back­stroke, 100 back­stroke lead and 50 breast­stroke. She was also run­nerup in the 100 back­stroke and took third in the 50 back­stroke lead.

She also nar­rowly missed out on a medal in the 50 freestyle, fin­ish­ing fourth.

Two other fe­male swimmers rep­re­sent­ing the Car­bon­ear club did well in the 10-and-un­der division.

Sarah For­ward of Salmon Cove claimed a sil­ver (50 but­terf ly) and two bronze (200 freestyle and 100 freestyle), while Ari­anna Tay­lor of Vic­to­ria col­lected three bronze medals (50 breast­stroke, 200 breast­stroke and 50 but­ter­fly).

Drew For­ward of Salmon Cove fin­ished sec­ond (200 freestyle) in the 11-12 age group ( fe­male), while Kirsten Lowe of Clarke’s Beach also brought home a sil­ver (50 back­stroke) in the 10-and-un­der fe­male cat­e­gory.

Mean­while, Po­sei­don is sched­uled to host the Pro­vin­cial Heats and Fi­nals Swim Meet from Nov. 30Dec. 2 at the Car­bon­ear pool. Some 200 swimmers are expected to com­pete.
