Lo­cal skaters rise to the top at pro­vin­cial event

Lo­cal skaters brought home a bas­ket­full of medals from the 2012 Skate Canada New­found­land and Labar­dor Sec­tional Cham­pi­onships held at the Mount Pearl Glacier, Nov. 9-10.

The Con­cep­tion Bay North Skat­ing Club sent four skaters and two ice dance teams to the com­pe­ti­tion. Of the four in­di­vid­ual skaters to com­pete, three of them brought home medals, while both ice dance teams cap­tured medals.

In the pre-ju­ve­nile ice dance division, the duo of Bri­anna Rus­sell and An­drew Littlejohn, as well as Ju­lia Keefe and Ethan Par­sons, fin­ished one and two on the podium.

Maya Pet­ten stood atop the podium in the pre-ju­ve­nile women (un­der 11) division, fin­ish­ing with a gold medal.

In the pre-ju­ve­nile women (un­der 14) division, Katie Daw­son cap­tured the gold. Fel­low CBNSC skater Toni-Lynn Par­sons came sec­ond. Ju­lia Keefe fin­ished in fifth place.

Bare­neeed skater Jenna Ef­ford also com­peted at the com­pe­ti­tion. Ef­ford, skat­ing for the Mount Pearl club, cap­tured a sil­ver medal in the ju­ve­nile womens division and earned a per­sonal best score of 26.46. Ef­ford was also awarded the Po­laris Cup as the most artis­tic skater in the com­pe­ti­tion.

Mem­bers of the Con­cep­tion Bay North Skat­ing Club had a suc­cess­ful week­end at the 2012 Skate Canada New­found­land and Labar­dor Sec­tional Cham­pi­onships held at the Mount Pearl Glacier, Nov. 9-10. The group, com­prised of four skaters and two ice dance teams, brought home a com­bined five medals (three gold and two sil­ver.) Skaters who par­tic­i­pated were, from left, Laura Keefe, An­drew Littlejohn, Bri­anna Rus­sell, Toni-Lynn Par­sons, Ju­lia Keefe, Katie Daw­son, Ethan Par­sons and Maya Pet­ten.
