Success at sectionals
Local skaters rise to the top at provincial event
Local skaters brought home a basketfull of medals from the 2012 Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labardor Sectional Championships held at the Mount Pearl Glacier, Nov. 9-10.
The Conception Bay North Skating Club sent four skaters and two ice dance teams to the competition. Of the four individual skaters to compete, three of them brought home medals, while both ice dance teams captured medals.
In the pre-juvenile ice dance division, the duo of Brianna Russell and Andrew Littlejohn, as well as Julia Keefe and Ethan Parsons, finished one and two on the podium.
Maya Petten stood atop the podium in the pre-juvenile women (under 11) division, finishing with a gold medal.
In the pre-juvenile women (under 14) division, Katie Dawson captured the gold. Fellow CBNSC skater Toni-Lynn Parsons came second. Julia Keefe finished in fifth place.
Bareneeed skater Jenna Efford also competed at the competition. Efford, skating for the Mount Pearl club, captured a silver medal in the juvenile womens division and earned a personal best score of 26.46. Efford was also awarded the Polaris Cup as the most artistic skater in the competition.
Members of the Conception Bay North Skating Club had a successful weekend at the 2012 Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labardor Sectional Championships held at the Mount Pearl Glacier, Nov. 9-10. The group, comprised of four skaters and two ice dance teams, brought home a combined five medals (three gold and two silver.)
