Marijuana plants seized in Western Bay
Officers with the Trinity Conception District RCMP arrested a 62year-old man from Western Bay Feb. 4 after seizing 40 marijuana plants from a home on South Side Road in that community.
The RCMP said the plants were in various stages of growth. Fertilizer and lighting equipment were also seized from the home.
The man is facing a charge of production of cannabis marijuana. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Harbour Grace provincial court on April 16.
It was the second drug bust in the community in less than three weeks.
On Jan. 15, a 53-year-old Western Bay man was arrested and now faces charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. They include possession of cannabis marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, production of cannabis marijuana and possession of property under $5,000 obtained by crime.
Officers, armed with a search warrant, arrived at the man’s prop- erty about 9:30 a.m and conducted a search of a private residence and two adjacent garages.
Seized during the search was a single marijuana plant, some 36 grams of marijuana, roughly $1,500 in cash, a television believed to be stolen and items such as packaging material, weigh scales and various documents police say are commonly used by a “street dealer.”
The accused was released from police custody, and is scheduled to appear in Harbour Grace provincial court on March 25.
