Compass editor finalist for outstanding journalist
Compass editor Terry Roberts is one of three finalists in the running for the outstanding journalist award at the upcoming 2013 Newspapers Atlantic better newspapers competition.
The finalists were announced by Newspapers Atlantic on Friday, andthe award recipients will be announced at the organization’s 41st annual conference in Halifax on May 11.
It’s one of six nominations received by The Compass, the weekly newspapering serving the Trinity Conception region. In all, the 14 weekly newspapers in this province owned by TC Media received 26 nominations.
Also nominated in the outstanding journalist category are Belle Hatfield of the Yarmouth Country Vanguard and Ashley Thompson of the Windsor Hants Journal. Both papers are located in Nova Scotia.
Journalists at some 70 newspapers throughout Atlantic Canada were eligible for the award.
Roberts has been editor at The Compass for just under three years, and has worked as a journalist in this province since 1991.
Roberts is also a finalist in the categories of best national editorial and best resources story, while reporter/photographer Nicholas Mercer is a finalist in the cate-
gories of best photo essay and best specialty column.
Longtime Compass employee Bill Bowman is also a nominee in the category of best local editorial.
