The Compass - - ORTHTE - The fol­low­ing is a sum­mary of awards handed out at the 43nd Ki­wa­nis Club of Car­bon­ear Re­gional Mu­sic Fes­ti­val last week. There were some 80 awards, to­talling some $8,500 in prize money. In all, some 2,200 par­tic­i­pants took part in the fes­ti­val.

• An­to­nia Whe­lan (Har­bour Grace) — Se­nior Rose Bowl ($500); ad­ju­di­ca­tor’s choice ($350);

• Kris­tian Butt (Car­bon­ear) — run­ner-up, Se­nior Rose Bowl ($150);

• Amy Gilling­ham (Car­bon­ear) — Ju­nior Rose Bowl ($300); best per­for­mance in fe­male solo, ad­ju­di­ca­tor’s choice ($75); best per­for­mance in opera solo ($50);

• Danielle Tay­lor (Vic­to­ria) — run­ner-up, Ju­nior Rose Bowl ($75);

• Cres­cent Col­le­giate Con­cert Choir (Blake­town) — Choral Rose Bowl ($300); best per­for­mance in choirs two, three and four part singing ($75); best per­for­mance by a se­nior choir ($200); rec­om­men­da­tion to con­tinue to pro­vin­cial com­pe­ti­tion;

• Car­bon­ear Col­le­giate Choir — run­nerup, Choral Rose Bowl ($150); best per­for­mance in school choirs, sa­cred mu­sic ($50); rec­om­men­da­tion to con­tinue to pro­vin­cial com­pe­ti­tion;

• Car­bon­ear Col­le­giate Jazz Band (Car­bon­ear) — In­stru­men­tal Rose Bowl ($300); best per­for­mance by a brass band, wood- wind en­sem­ble, con­cert band, and jazz band at the dis­cre­tion of the ad­ju­di­ca­tor ($500);

• As­cen­sion Col­le­giate Con­cert Band (Bay Roberts) — run­ner-up, In­stru­men­tal Rose Bowl ($150);

• Natalie Finn (Car­bon­ear) — best per­for­mance in string solo ($50); best per­for­mance in pi­ano solo classes 17-20, 23-26, and 29-32 ($50); ad­ju­di­ca­tor’s choice ($500); rec­om­men­da­tion to con­tinue to the pro­vin­cial com­pe­ti­tion, in­stru­men­tal;

• Lau­ren Shep­herd (Car­bon­ear) — best per­for­mance in Cana­dian com­po­si­tion pi­ano ($50); mu­si­cal the­atre, awarded at the dis­cre­tion of the ad­ju­di­ca­tor ($50); per­for­mance in ju­nior con­cert groups, 12 and un­der ($100);

• Aaron Finn (Car­bon­ear) — best per­for­mance in gui­tar, per­cus­sion and spe­cial solo classes ($50); out­stand­ing in­stru­men­tal solo ($50);

• Lu­cas White (Pla­cen­tia) — best per­for­mance in male vo­cal solo ($50); awarded at the ad­ju­di­ca­tor’s dis­cre­tion to a vo­cal­ist, 12 years and un­der, who shows great prom­ise ($100);

• Har­bour Grace Pri­mary Choir — best per­for­mance in pri­mary choirs ($75); best per­for­mance by a pri­mary choir ($100);

• Kayla Pet­ten (Bare­need) — best per­for­mance in New­found­land songs ($100);

• Erin Mackey (North River) — best per­for­mance in folk song solo ($100);

• All Hal­lows Grade 3 Choir (North River) — best per­for­mance in class­room choirs ($75);

• Re­becca Sel­lars and Al­lie Bur­ton (Car­bon­ear and Clarke’s Beach) —best per­for­mance in Cana­dian com­posers vo­cal ($75);

• Cres­cent Col­le­giate Vo­cal En­sem­ble (Blake­town) — best per­for­mance in New­found­land songs, choirs ($100);

• Anna Mercer (Co­ley’s Point) — best per­for­mance in pi­ano solo ($50);

• MacKen­zie Leonard-Power (Pla­cen­tia) — best per­for­mance in pi­ano solo, 9, 10 and 11 yrs ($50);

• Madi­son Squires (Up­per Is­land Cove) — best per­for­mance in spe­cial pi­ano solo sec­tion ($50);

• Bac­calieu Col­le­giate Tra­di­tional Band (Old Per­li­can) — best per­for­mance by small mixed and in­stru­men­tal en­sem­bles ($50);

• Amal­ga­mated Academy Con­cert Choir and Epiphany Ele­men­tary School Choir (Bay Roberts and Heart’s De­light) — pre­sented to a choir of 13 or more singers as de­ter­mined by the ad­ju­di­ca­tor ($150);
