Basketball court needs attention, says writer

The Compass - - OPINION - – Matthew Coombs writes from Spaniard’s Bay

I’m writing this letter to inform your readers about the condition of the outside basketball courts in Spaniard’s Bay. After several complaints last year, they finally put good rims and mesh on the basketball nets, but now it seems like they got no other work to do to it. There is glass and rocks all over the pavement and the lines on the pavement are fading, almost as if they never gave the court a second look afterwards since last summer.

These poor conditions can result in an injury to someone one day, maybe even soon which is why there has to be something done about these conditions. It’s not like it is going to cost millions of dollars to fix these conditions. All it takes is a little bit of the council’s money and a little bit of their time and attention.

The council knows how many people play basketball on this court but they just think that we should be grateful to have basketball nets, which we are, but we would be 10 times more grateful when we feel one hundred per cent safe on the court.

Thanks for printing this letter and I hope the people of Spaniards Bay will do the same by writing to you and the council to voice their concern.
