No mi­nor cel­e­bra­tion at Bay Arena


The Bay Arena Mi­nor Hockey As­so­ci­a­tion helds its an­nual ban­quet last week. Some 350 par­ents and play­ers gath­ered at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts on May 15 to cel­e­brate the con­clu­sion to an­other suc­cess­ful hockey sea­son. Awards were given out and ban­ners were raised as Bay Arena mi­nor rec­og­nized its best and bright­est. High­lights of the event were the giv­ing out of the Tony Bow­er­ing Award, the Wes­ley Gosse Me­mo­rial Schol­ar­ship and the Nina Pol­lett Me­mo­rial Award.

Holy Redeemer prin­ci­pal David Crane (right) was awarded the Tony Bow­er­ing Award at the Bay Arena mi­nor ban­quet on May 15. Crane was praised for his work both on and off the ice with young of­fi­cials. He was pre­sented the award by Bay Arena ref­eree- in­chief Keith Cronin. Each year, there is a group of young ath­letes who must leave their mi­nor hockey ca­reers be­hind them. Th­ese grad­u­at­ing play­ers have their fi­nal mi­nor hockey ex­pe­ri­ences at the year-end ban­quet. This year’s grad­u­at­ing mid­gets from Bay Arena mi­nor are, from left, Aaron Mercer, Matthew Mug­ford, Michael Kennedy, Matthew Rus­sell, Bran­don Pet­ten, Josh LeDrew, Kelland Mercer, James Keefe, Jared Pet­ten, Mitchell Dob­bin, Nick Nose­wor­thy and Chelsee Brad­bury.

The Nina Pol­lett Me­mo­rial Award is given to the grad­u­at­ing midget player who best ex­em­pli­fies the spirit of the game. This year, the award was pre­sented to Josh LeDrew (mid­dle). Giv­ing the award to LeDrew were mem­bers of the Bay Arena mi­nor hockey moms ex­ec­u­tive Dawn Batten (left) and Wendy Neil.
