No minor celebration at Bay Arena
The Bay Arena Minor Hockey Association helds its annual banquet last week. Some 350 parents and players gathered at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts on May 15 to celebrate the conclusion to another successful hockey season. Awards were given out and banners were raised as Bay Arena minor recognized its best and brightest. Highlights of the event were the giving out of the Tony Bowering Award, the Wesley Gosse Memorial Scholarship and the Nina Pollett Memorial Award.
Holy Redeemer principal David Crane (right) was awarded the Tony Bowering Award at the Bay Arena minor banquet on May 15. Crane was praised for his work both on and off the ice with young officials. He was presented the award by Bay Arena referee- inchief Keith Cronin. Each year, there is a group of young athletes who must leave their minor hockey careers behind them. These graduating players have their final minor hockey experiences at the year-end banquet. This year’s graduating midgets from Bay Arena minor are, from left, Aaron Mercer, Matthew Mugford, Michael Kennedy, Matthew Russell, Brandon Petten, Josh LeDrew, Kelland Mercer, James Keefe, Jared Petten, Mitchell Dobbin, Nick Noseworthy and Chelsee Bradbury.

The Nina Pollett Memorial Award is given to the graduating midget player who best exemplifies the spirit of the game. This year, the award was presented to Josh LeDrew (middle). Giving the award to LeDrew were members of the Bay Arena minor hockey moms executive Dawn Batten (left) and Wendy Neil.
