On Friday, May 19, the Cavendish 50-plus Club held its annual car rally. The route covered the communities of Cavendish, Whiteway, Green’s Harbour and Hopeall and included six teams from the club. Teams were required to collect items along the route, similar to a scavenger hunt, and received instructions at various checkpoints. Questions had to be answered on various stops and pictures taken to prove teams completed the assigned task. Extra points were awarded for the best or most outrageous costume, while a completion time was also a factor in selecting a winning team. This year, a team called The Checkers came out on top. Members included Junior Jackson, Betty Jackson, Carolann Precoor and Clarence Precoor. The car rally concept was spearheaded by Thomas Dobbie and his activity committee, which is also comprised of Gerri Jackson, Butch Strickland, Daphne Jackson, Sheila Jerrett, Phyllis Jackson, and Nellie Jackson. Organizers say this year’s event was another overwhelming success.

Member of The Red Hot Things (Phyllis Jackson, Sheila Jerrett, Cyril Jackson and Nellie Jackson) are seen here trying to find the scavenger item at Drover’s Store.
