Avid student golfers from across the Trinity Conception region got the chance to hit their best shots in the name of school pride at the second annual 9-Hole Best Ball High School Golf Tournament held at the Pitcher’s Pond Golf Course in Whiteway on May 29. Featuring 13 teams, athletes — both male and female — from Crecent Collegiate in Blaketown, Ascension Collegiate in Bay Roberts and Carbonear Collegiate spent the day travelling the course in groups of four. For some, it was their first day golfing, while others walked the links like seasoned professionals. Sure, school bragging rights were on the line, but the main goal was having fun ... and missing a day of school. The Crescent Collegiate girls squad of Noelle Russell, Alicia Gillam, Shawna Harnum and Sarah George repeated as winners, while the Crescent Collegiate boys, consisting of Lucas March, Michael Cumby, Tyler Clarke and David Green, were also victorious. On the female side, Crescent’s Sarah George won the longest drive, while Adam Oates, of Ascension was the male winner. Morgan Harnum from Crescent was closest to the pin. The Compass was there for all of the drives and drops.
