Bulldogs start season strong
Peewee AA pick up silver at Mary Tavenor Memorial tournament
The Conception Bay North Bulldogs peewee AA team has started its 2013 season on a positive note.
The Bulldogs picked up the silver medal in the final of the Mary Tavenor Memorial Tournament held in Corner Brook on July 5-7 after the team was narrowly defeated 86 by the St. John’s Capitals AAA peewee team.
“Despite the loss, it was a great start to the season for the peewee team,” said coach Scott Adams.
En route to the final, the Bulldogs defeated the Corner Brook AAA Barons, the St. John’s AA quad and the AAA representatives from Gander, before going toe to toe with the top-ranked peewee team in the province.
First baseman Colby Adams was named the team’s most spirited player.
In the Bantam division of the tourney, the bantam AA Bulldogs finished in a three-way tie for secnd place in their
division after finishing the round robin portion of the tournamet with one win and two losses.
The bantam Bulldogs met the St. John’s AAA Capitals in the semi finals, dropping a 5-0 decision. However, the score does indicate the competitiveness of the game, as the Bulldogs held the Caps scoreless through the first four innings.

In the mosquito division, the AA Bulldogs were unable to pick up a win and went 0-4 in the tournament.
Even with the losses, each player showed marked improvement from beginning to end and are looking for better results in three upcoming tournaments prior to their provincials later this summer.
Madison Coombs and Hillary Reardon were jointly selected as the most spirited players.
Five female players from the Bulldogs program are members of the provincial bantam girls’ team.
The team took part in the tournament and posted one win and two losses but failed to make the crossovers.
The team is currently gearing up for the 2013 Under16 Girls Invitational Championships, set to go Aug. 22 in Bedford, Nova Scotia.
DANGLING TO GOLD — The Upper Island Cove Hawks went undefeated en route to the championship in the Danglers (under-13) division at the Play On street hockey tournament at Memorial University in St. John’s on June 22. The Hawks defeated defending champions St. John’s Breton 6-0 in the final and were undefeated in the tournament.
