Limited hours for Library
Operating hours for the Carbonear public library are reduced from Sept. 3-7. The reduced hours as as follows: Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and Saturday, noon to 2 p.m.
Avalon Community Theatre group is getting ready to launch its next production, The Mumberley Inheritance by Warren Graves, to be staged at the Sheila NaGeira Theatre on Friday, Nov. 15. The group is in need of people both on stage and backstage, for preparation and for the performance night. Also seeking crew for costumes, sets, props, lights and a honky-tonk style piano player. The Labrador Fishery
An event called “Twas on the Labrador” will take place Friday, Sept. 13 at the Rorke Store Museum, Carbonear, beginning at 7:30 p.m. This tribute to all the people from the region that sailed to the Labrador Fishery on the SS Kyle will include an evening of songs, music and stories.
Orange Blossom special benefit concert for local community food bank, to be held Friday, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the Princess Sheila NaGeira Theatre. Cast of 12 singers and instrumentalists. Admission is a monetary donation at the door.
The Carbonear Public Library will begin registration for its fall story time program for newborns to six years old Sept. 10. For more on this and other programs call Tracey at 596-3382.
SS Kyle celebrations
• Sept. 14 — the 4th annual Swim the Kyle begins at 2 p.m., with Libby Earle, daughter of the late Capt. Guy Earle, legendary sea captain and last owner of the vessel, will make her annual swim to touch the bow of the Kyle. Kelly Russell will recite his dad’s poem, “Smoke Room on the Kyle,” author Pat Collins will be signing his book “The Spirit of the Kyle,” Corrina Fahey will be unveiling a new painting of the Kyle, and the Battalion 201 Drum and Gloc Corps will be providing music.
• Sept 14 — an event caled “Sail the SS Kyle in 1916” will be held at the Bay Roberts Hotel, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Includes a meal and entertainment, and guests are welcome to dress in period costume. To book, call 1-800-786-4703

Health foundation fundraiser

Trinity Conception pageant

Donations for Belize project
The Anglican parishes in Conception Bay North are looking for new or lightly used items to fill a container that will be shipped to Belize. They are still in need of children’s clothing, books, used bicycles, toiletries and items suitable for school-age children.
