Playoff action underway
Brake’s Heating earns bye into finals with first place finish
The playoffs have started in the Carbonear men’s slo-pitch softball league with Brake’s Heating earning the bye to the championship round and leaving Butt’s Esso and East Coast Concrete to battle in the semifinals.
In Game 1 of the best-of-seven series on Aug. 26, Butt’s struck first with an 11-7 victory over East Coast at the Carbonear Recreation Complex.
Cecil Taylor led the victors with three hits, while Gord King, Marty Tilley, Scott Cleary and Jason Power chipped in with two hits apiece.
For East Coast, Charl Clarke, Dennis King and Ralph Slade had three hits each.
Scott Cleary took the win, while Gerard Griffin suffered the loss.
East Coast evened the series at 1-1 with a 5-1 victory in the second game of the evening.
Ralph Slade lead the way for East Coast with three hits, while Dennis King and Chad Parsons had two hits apiece.
In defeat, Marty Tilly and Scott Cleary had two hits each.
Gerard Griffin pitched the victory, while Scott Cleary took the loss.
Games 3 and 4 were set for Aug. 29.
In the first game, East Coast defeated Butt’s by a score of 9-4.
Dennis King belted a homerun, along with two other hits to lead the winners. Nick Rossiter also picked up three knocks, while Blair Parsons, Charl Clarke, Shannon Chafe and Tom Harris had two hits apiece.
In defeat, Cecil Taylor was the top hitter with two hits. Gerard Griffin picked up the victory, while Frank Finlayson took the loss.
In the final game of the regular season, Brake’s Heating blanked East Coast by a score of 5-0.
Mat Davis, Tyson Crant, Grant Tobin and Sam White lead the attack with two hits each. For East Coast, Charl Clarke, Chad Parsons and Shannon Chafe had two hits apiece. Sam White tossed the victory, while Gerard Griffin suffered the loss.
