East Coast, Brake’s to meet in finals
It took six games for East Coast Concrete to put away Butt’s Esso in the semifinals of the Carbonear Slo Pitch Softball League at the Carbonear Recreation Complex on Sept. 2.
East Coast will now meet Brake’s Heating in the championship series.
In the deciding game, East Coast doubled Butt’s Esso 6-3 to clinch the series.
Blair Parsons, Nick Rossiter, Gerard Griffin, Mat Hiscock and Alf Bourne each collected one hit in the victory.
Leading the offence for Butt’s was Jeff Parsons with two hits, while Jason Power, Scott Cleary and Marty TilLey connected for one hit apiece.
Gerard Griffin toed the rubber for the victory, while Scott Cleary took the loss.
Game 5 went earlier in the evening with East Coast crushing Butt’s 11-2 to pull ahead three games to two in the series.
Charl Clarke paced the offense for Butt’s with two hits, including a homerun. Mike Whiteway, Wilson Snow, Bradley Harris and Ryan Dean each collected two hits.
For the losers, Jason Power had two hits, while Gord King, Scott Cleary and Jeff Parsons had one hit.
The championship series was set to kick off on Sept. 5.

In Game 4, Dennis King, Chad Parsons and Wilson Snow had three hits to pace the East Coast attack, while Peter chubs and Ryan Dean had two hits apiece. For Butt’s, Paul O’Leary and Cecil Taylor had two hits each. Gerard Griffin picked up the win while Scott Cleary took the loss. In Game 3, Jason Power, Scott Cleary and Marty Tilley had two hits apiece for the winners. In defeat, Nick Rossiter, Mike Whiteway and Alf Bourne had two hits each. Scott Cleary pitched the victory, while Gerard Griffin suffered the loss. The win put Butt’s briefly ahead in the series 2-1.
