Brake’s Heat­ing burns up com­pe­ti­tion

East Coast Con­crete drops men’s soft­ball league fi­nal in five games

Af­ter three nights of tough com­pe­ti­tion, the 2013 cham­pi­ons of the Car­bon­ear Mol­son men’s slo-pitch soft­ball league have been crowned.

A best-of-seven com­pe­ti­tion saw Brake’s Heat­ing de­feat East Coast Con­crete in five games.

In a close fi­nal, Brake’s took the cham­pi­onship Sept. 12 with a 4-3 tri­umph over East Coast.

Kevin Pen­ney had two hits in the fi­nal game for the champs.

Sam White tossed his fourth pitch­ing vic­tory, while Ger­ard Grif­fin took the loss.

To open the se­ries Sept. 5, Brake’s an­ni­hi­lated their op­po­nents by a score of 7-0 in Game 1.

Barry Short had three hits in the win, while Steven Peach, Kevin Pen­ney and Roy Flight had two apiece.

Sam White got the credit for the pitch­ing win while Ger­ard Grif­fin took the loss.

In the sec­ond game of the dou­ble­header, Brake’s de­feated East Coast with a 14-2 vic­tory.

With three hits, Kevin Pen­ney was the top bat­ter for Brake’s, while Steven Peach made it on base twice.

Ger­ard Grif­fin threw loss again, while Sam White tossed the win.

Brake’s con­tin­ued their win­ning streak in the first of two games Sept. 9 with an­other 7-0 vic­tory.

Sam White con­tin­ued the trend of the win­ning pitcher, while Ger­ard Grif­fin re­ceived the loss.

Nine play­ers from the win­ning team man­aged to get to base, while the top bat­ter for East Coast was Chad Par­sons with two hits.

Fac­ing elim­i­na­tion, East Coast had their first win of the fi­nal with a 4-3 vic­tory.

Brake’s was win­ning the fourth game when East Coast bounced back to ex­tend the se­ries into Game 5.

The pitch­ing win was spl i t be­tween Ger­ard Grif­fin and Tom Har­ris, while Sam White suf­fered his first loss of the se­ries. Car­bon­ear soft­ball tour­ney The league hosted its first-ever soft­ball tour­na­ment Sept. 14 at the Car­bon­ear Recre­ation Com­plex. Seven teams par­tic­i­pated in the event, in­clud­ing the league champs, Brake’s Heat­ing.

Other teams par­tic­i­pat­ing were Mor­row and Mor­row, Greenspar, Home Life, BPS Land Scap­ing, Aero White­way and Nor­man’s Cove.

Home Life de­feated Mor­row and Mor­row to win the tour­na­ment by a score of 1514.

Mem­bers of the win­ning team were Rudy But­ler, Steven McLean, Bran­don Roach, Mitchel But­ler, Ja­son Curnew, Justin Oates, Matthew French, Michael Adams, Phillip Nor­man and Ken­neth Ab­bott.
