Aileen Pike named first-ever Junior Miss Trinity Conception
Miss Teen crown goes to Heather Higdon of Green’s Harbour
Two pageant winners were crowned in Harbour Grace on Sunday, Sept. 29, including the first-ever Junior Miss Trinity Conception.
Twelve-year-old Aileen Pike claimed the Junior Miss crown at the S. W. Moores Memorial Stadium before and audience of some 200 people following a glamorous and entertaining three-hour extravaganza.
Aileen is the daughter of John Pike and Amy Parsons of Harbour Grace, and was one of 17 contestants between the ages of nine and 13 in the inaugural pageant. Aileen’s younger sister, nine-year-old Johnna, was also a contestant. They have a younger brother, seven-year-old Jonathan.
“She’s really excited to begin her role as Miss Junior,” Amy stated last week.
Nine-year-old Emily Butt of Harbour Grace was the first runner-up, while Katie Burke, age 10, of Victoria, was second runner-up.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Heather Higdon of Green’s Harbour was overcome with emotion after being named the 2013 Miss Trinity Conception. She was one of 10 entries in the ninth Miss TC pageant, which attracted contestants between the ages of 14 and 18.
Heather is the daughter of Lyndon and Doreen Higdon, and a Level II student at Crescent Collegiate in Blaketown. She turned heads with her remarkable confidence and poise, and spoke forcefully about the importance of having a good self-image, regardless of what you see in the mirror, and was a crowd favourite for her powerful and courageous attitude.
Higdon received her crown from 2012 winner Jessie Fewer of Cupids, who delivered an emotional and poignant speech during which she gave special thanks to, among others, her parents, Ed Fewer and Jackie Laracy.
Mallory Gillespie of Carbonear, age 15, was first runner-up, while Rebecca Bishop of Bay Roberts was second runner-up. Bishop is 16 yearsof-age.
