Car­bon­ear league hands out year-end awards

On Sept. 28, the Car­bon­ear slo­p­itch soft­ball league held its 36th an­nual ban­quet and pre­sen­ta­tion of awards at the Knights of Colum­bus.

Brake’s Heat­ing was awarded the first place award and the cham­pi­onship award, while East Coast Con­crete’s Nick Ros­siter was named the league’s top hit­ter.

Ros­siter posted a .594 av­er­age over the course of the sea­son.

Next up was the award for most home runs. Again, an East Coast Con­crete player, Den­nis King, picked up the hard­ware.

The Ralph How­ell Me­mo­rial Award was given to Charl Clarke, while Tim Brake was given the Pres­i­dent’s Award as the most ded­i­cated to the league.

Once the ban­quet was fin­ished, the league set about es­tab­lish­ing its 2014 ex­ec­tu­ive. It is as fol­lows: • pres­i­dent — Ger­ard Grif­fin; • vice-pres­i­dent — Tim Brake; • trea­surer — Ce­cil Tay­lor; • um­pire- in- chief — Scott Cleary;

• statis­ti­cian — Ger­ard Grif­fin; and

• past-pres­i­dent — Mike Whiteway.
