Carbonear league hands out year-end awards
On Sept. 28, the Carbonear slopitch softball league held its 36th annual banquet and presentation of awards at the Knights of Columbus.
Brake’s Heating was awarded the first place award and the championship award, while East Coast Concrete’s Nick Rossiter was named the league’s top hitter.
Rossiter posted a .594 average over the course of the season.
Next up was the award for most home runs. Again, an East Coast Concrete player, Dennis King, picked up the hardware.
The Ralph Howell Memorial Award was given to Charl Clarke, while Tim Brake was given the President’s Award as the most dedicated to the league.
Once the banquet was finished, the league set about establishing its 2014 exectuive. It is as follows: • president — Gerard Griffin; • vice-president — Tim Brake; • treasurer — Cecil Taylor; • umpire- in- chief — Scott Cleary;
• statistician — Gerard Griffin; and
• past-president — Mike Whiteway.
