Re­mem­brance cer­e­monies

• Car­bon­ear — any Le­gion mem­ber wish­ing to par­tic­i­pate in the Re­mem­brance Day Pa­rade are asked to meet at the Car­bon­ear Le­gion on Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. to be bused to the Col­lege of the North for 10:15 a.m. There will be a light lunch and en­ter­tain­ment back at the Le­gion fol­low­ing the cer­e­mony.

• Salmon Cove — there will be a ser­vice at Bethany United Church, Car­bon­ear on Nov. 10 (11 a.m.) Mem­bers will go to the Car­bon­ear Le­gion af­ter church for a light lunch, then will be bused to Salmon Cove at 1:15 p.m. for the Re­mem­brance Day cer­e­mony.

• Car­bon­ear —Le­gion will host a Re­mem­brance Day ban­quet and dance on Nov. 16. Cock­tails at 7 p.m. and roast beef din­ner at 7:30 p.m. Din­ners are sold in ad­vance, with mu­sic by Harold Prid­dle. For more, call 596-3691.

Goods bingo

Cat Con­cerns cat shel­ter will be host­ing goods bingo at the Knights of Colum­bus in Bri­gus Oct. 24. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Hal­loween dance

The Car­bon­ear le­gion will host a hal­loween dance Oct. 26 start­ing at 9:30 p.m. There will be a live band and prizes for the best cos­tumes.

An evening of sto­ry­telling

An event called “Spooks, Spec­tres and Skele­tons” will take place at the Cupids Legacy Cen­tre on Satur­day, Oct. 26 (7:30 p.m.). Spook­ing you with tales of ghosts, gob­lins and ghouls will be sto­ry­tellers Wen­dell Dawe, Charis Cot­ter, Roy Dawe, Den­nis Flynn and Peter Laracy. Chil­dren should be ac­com­pa­nied by an adult. Show up in a cos­tume and you qual­ify to win a prize.

Hal­loween dance

To be held at the Shearstown Li­ons Club, Satur­day, Oct. 26 (doors open at 9 p.m.) Cash prizes for best cos­tume, most orig­i­nal and scari­est. To be hosted in aid of Cat Con­cerns Inc., on Satur­day, Nov. 2 at the Lion’s Club in Bay Roberts. Doors open at 10 a.m. Cat Con­cerns is an in­cor­po­rated not-for-profit or­ga­ni­za­tion, and is rais­ing money for its Cat Shel­ter Build­ing Fund.

Flea mar­ket/bake sale

The Sea­side Se­niors Club of Hant’s Har­bour will host a bake and craft sale and a flea mar­ket at the club’s build­ing at 10 a.m. Nov. 7. A mug-up will be served.

Step­ping Stones Fam­ily Re­source


The re­source cen­tre in Whit­bourne will host a num­ber of ac­tiv­i­ties for the month of Oc­to­ber. Morn­ing ses­sion runs from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and af­ter­noon ses­sion runs from 13 p.m. Ac­tiv­i­ties in­clude ac­tive play, birth walk­ing, tod­dler time, learn­ing time, healthy baby club, and fam­ily drop-in play­time. Cloth­ing do­na­tions
