HAN­NAH, Hew­son — passed away on Oc­to­ber 12, 2013, at the Pen­te­costal Se­nior Cit­i­zen’s Home at Clarke’s Beach, in her 96th year. Han­nah was born in Gun­zen­hausen, Ger­many on May 16, 1918 to Dr. Josef and Lily Wolff. She mar­ried the late War­rant Of­fi­cer Charles John Hew­son and served with dis­tinc­tion in the Bri­tish Army dur­ing World War II, be­ing dec­o­rated four times. Her fam­ily im­mi­grated to Canada in 1957 and lived in Kiti­mat, Bri­tish Columbia. Han­nah was a chil­dren’s nurse be­fore the war and taught spe­cial needs chil­dren in Kiti­mat. She re­tired to Vic­to­ria, BC and sub­se­quently resided in Aylmer, Que­bec and Car­bon­ear Lux­ury Es­tates and the Bay Roberts Re­tire­ment Cen­tre. Han­nah was an avid reader and bridge player and a keen fol­lower of cur­rent events. She en­joyed vol­un­teer ac­tiv­i­ties and liked meet­ing in­ter­est­ing peo­ple. She trav­elled ex­ten­sively as late as her 90th year. Han­nah is sur­vived by her sons Michael (Donna Doyle) re­sid­ing in Bay Roberts and John (the late Peggy Spencer) re­sid­ing in Burn­aby BC. She will be missed by the Ste­warts (her On­tario fam­ily) and by the Groves fam­i­lies in the UK. Also left to cel­e­brate her life, are her New­found­land fam­i­lies, the Doyles and the LeShanes, and fam­ily and friends world­wide. In ac­cor­dance with Han­nah’s wishes, cre­ma­tion has taken place and her ashes will be scat­tered at sea.

SLADE, Ge­orge Wil­liam ‘Will’ — Passed peace­fully away at the Health Sciences Cen­tre, St. John’s on Satur­day, Oct. 12, 2013, Ge­orge Wil­liam ‘Will’ Slade of Vic­to­ria, age 62 years. Pre­de­ceased by par­ents: Eben and Dorothy ‘Dot’, in­fant brother, par­ents-in-law: Jim and Al­freda Cull, sis­ter-in-law: Alma Meadus and brothers-in-law: Ray­mond, Cyril and Gra­ham Cull. Left to mourn, wife: Eileen; daugh­ter: Lisa (Brian) Cole, Vic­to­ria; sis­ter: Is­abelle (Roscoe) Cole, Vic­to­ria; four brothers-in-law: Car­mond (Lorna) Cull and Wayne (An­gela) Cull, both of Broad Cove, Stephen (Phyl­lis) Cull and Ce­cil Meadus, both of Car­bon­ear; three sis­ters-in-law: Pearl Cull, Western Bay, Phyl­lis Cull and Joan Cull, both of Broad Cove; also a num­ber of nieces, neph­ews and other rel­a­tives and friends. Rested at Noel’s Fu­neral Home, Wa­ter Street, Car­bon­ear. Rev. T. Wayne Black­wood con­ducted the fu­neral ser­vice on Tues­day, Oct. 15 from River­side United Church, Salmon Cove. In­ter­ment took place in River­side United Church Ceme­tery, Salmon Cove. Do­na­tions in his mem­ory may be made to a char­ity of one’s choice.
