Red Circle case not solved
On May 14, 2013 The Compass broke a news story about an attempted armed robbery at Red Circle convenience store in Carbonear.
Since the initial report, a male suspect was identified, apprehended and charged. He was later cleared of all charges by the Crown.
RCMP officers told The Compass last week there have been no other suspects identified since, and they will not be pursuing the matter any further.
Sgt. Hicks from the Trinity Conception RCMP detachment confirmed there have only been a handful of armed robbery related offences in the past decade, including the case of Michael Bowman, who will be sentenced Oct. 31 for holding up a pharmacy in South River.
Hicks also said when crimes take place with such a serious nature — especially in an area where it isn’t common — the department does everything it can ensure a suspect is brought to justice.
In the case of the Red Circle attempted armed robbery, there was not enough evidence to convict and nothing to link the crime to another suspect.
An attempted armed robbery took place at Red Circle convenience store on Water Street in Carbonear in May.
