Pow­ell’s Su­per­mar­kets re­ceives na­tional awards

A pair of su­per­mar­kets in Con­cep­tion Bay North have been rec­og­nized with na­tional awards.

Pow­ell’s Su­per­mar­kets in Bay Roberts and Har­bour Grace were each given awards from the Cana­dian Fed­er­a­tion of In­de­pen­dent Gro­cers (CFIG) awards pro­gram.

Both re­ceived the awards at the 51st Cana­dian In­de­pen­dent Gro­cery of the Year awards cer­e­mony on Oct. 1 in Toronto.

In Bay Roberts, em­ploy­ees David J. Pow­ell, Adam Pow­ell, John Mercer and Craig Oates were each awarded the na­tional plat­inum award af­ter earn­ing the award of merit for 10 con­sec­u­tive years.

The store was also rec­og­nized with the re­gional award for the medi- um sur­face cat­e­gory in At­lantic Canada.

Later in the evening, it was an­nounced that David J. Pow­ell, Adam Pow­ell, Craig Oates and Betty Lun­dri­gan of Pow­ell’s in Har­bour Grace were awarded the na­tional bronze award in the small sur­face cat­e­gory of the top in­de­pen­dent gro­cer of the year sec­tion.

Har­bour Grace also re­ceived a re­gional award in the small sur­face cat­e­gory.

“The Pow­ell Group un­der­stands its cus­tomers and how to meet their needs,” said Thomas Bar­low, pres­i­dent and chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer of CFIG. “We are very pleased that they have been rec­og­nized for their out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tion to their com­mu­nity.”
