The Brigus town council is back to full strength.

Two political newcomers, Wayne Broughton and Thomas Ryan Sr., have stepped forward to fill the two vacant seats on council.

Nomination day was Tuesday, Oct. 29. It was required after only five candidates came forward in the lead-up to the Sept. 24 municipal elections, leaving two seats unfilled.

Wayne Broughton is a member of the family that operates a funeral home and ambulance service in the town. Thomas Ryan Sr., is a trades- man currently working in Long Harbour.

Both will be sworn in during a regular council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Initially, four citizens had stepped forward to answer the call for nominations, but two later declined, negating the need for a byelection and saving the town some $2,000.

Other members of council include Mayor Byron Rodway, Deputy Mayor Ralph Trickett, and councillors Greg Hiscock, Shears Mercer Jr. and Lorne Youden.
