THOMEY, John— It is with heavy hearts that we, the fam­ily, an­nounce the pass­ing of John Thomey on Nov. 10, 2013. He was born on March 20, 1931 in Har­bour Grace. He was a lov­ing hus­band, fa­ther and grand­fa­ther. John joined the navy at 17 years of age and later was em­ployed at Ocean Har­vesters in Har­bour Grace as chief engi­neer for 40 years. His pas­sions in life were his fam­ily, his com­mu­nity and a great love for hockey. He played de­fense in jersey No. 3 for the CeeBees se­nior hockey team, bring­ing home the Herder Me­mo­rial Tro­phy sev­eral times. He also loved to fish and play­ing cards was a favourite pas­time for him and Lilly. John had a won­der­ful sense of hu­mour and was loved by all that were blessed enough to know him. He will be for­ever in our hearts and never for­got­ten. Pre­de­ceased by in­fant son: John Bren­dan, par­ents: Arthur and Mary, sis­ters: Camilla, Mary and Joan, brothers: Mike, Jim and Mark. Left to mourn, wife: Lil­lian; two daugh­ters: Joan Thomey, St. John’s and Jackie (Chris) Pud­dis­ter, Halifax, NS; two sons: Paul (Dar­lene) and John (April), both of Har­bour Grace; six grand­chil­dren: Matthew and Me­gan Thomey, Ja­son and Stephanie Pud­dis­ter, Becky and Emma Thomey; two brothers: Bren­dan (He­len), Har­bour Grace and Ron (Brid­get), Cal­gary, AB; mem­bers of the Newman Fam­ily; as well as a large num­ber of other rel­a­tives and friends. Rested at Noel’s Fu­neral Home, Har­vey Street, Har­bour Grace. Fr. Wil­liam Pearce con­ducted the Fu­neral Mass on Thurs­day, Nov. 14 from Im­mac­u­late Con­cep­tion Ro­man Catholic Church, Har­bour Grace. In­urn­ment took place on Fri­day, Nov. 15 in the Ro­man Catholic Ceme­tery, Har­bour Grace. Do­na­tions in his mem­ory may be made to the Cana­dian Men­tal Health As­so­ci­a­tion.
