Bay Roberts opens Festival of Lights

It was a chilly night on the Wilbur Sparkes Recreation Complex on Nov. 27 as Bay Roberts opened its 16th annual Festival of Lights. Hundreds of people crowded onto the ball field in anticipation of the lighting of the Christmas Park. It has become an event residents look forward to once the calendar turns to November. On this evening, town councillors served piping hot chocolate and members of the Ascension Collegiate choir provided music entertainment, while Mayor Philip Wood and Port de Grave MHA Glenn Littlejohn brought greetings on behalf of the town and district. However, that was all secondary when the event’s special guest arrived. Children dashed to the back of the field as Santa made a special appearance from the North Pole. Santa highfived the children who swarmed to meet him, their smiles almost as bright as the fireworks that flashed overhead.
