Difficult industry

The Compass - - NEWS - BYMELISSA JENKINS

He may be a little older than he was when he opened his first office in 1993, but Barry Clarke still runs his real estate business the same way he has for the past 20 years — with a focus on family values.

When Barry opened that first location on Columbus Drive in Carbonear, his daughter Natasha was five years old, his wife Glenda took care of the bookkeeping and he sold properties.

Now, his company has grown to four locations — Carbonear, Bay Roberts, Placentia and Conception Bay South — but he says it is still a family business.

“My daughter Natasha just opened our Conception Bay South office in March,” Barry explains. “She is doing very well with it. She has already recruited three agents.”

Before opening the office, significant renovations were done on the building to convert the rear into an apartment for Natasha.

Barry’s plan for his venture is simple — he wants to grow the business.

With four offices flourishing, Barry says he will continue to grow the busi- ness, but it may take some time outside the St. John’s area.
