A message of thanks, hope
The temperatures last week were unseasonably cold, biting at exposed skin and forcing us to add some extra layers of clothing. But despite the weather outside, it’s our hope this is a time of year when the warmth of the season shines through and family and friends reconnect and give thanks for all we have in this peaceful, prosperous part of the world.
With the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations still in full forward thrust for many, with work, school and shopping demanding nearly every waking moment for many of us, it’s exciting to look forward to what we hope will be a brief period of relaxation, harmony and family bonding.
The signs of the season are now all around us, and that brings with it a level of stress, pressure and expectation as we strive to make this holiday season one to remember. But for too many of us, Christmas is a time of excess, financially and otherwise. As such, it’s important that we not lose sight of its true meaning, which is to give thanks and reflect on our lives, and lend a hand when we can.
We are also fully aware that Christmas is not the utopia that many commercials make it out to be, and sickness, hardship and loss is just as prevalent as it is any other time of year. While many of us gather for socials, meals of plenty and gift-giving, remember that others are not so fortunate, and it’s important to not lose sight of this. Perspective and understanding are two things to keep in mind.
With that, we conclude by saying that it is indeed a privilege to have a role in bringing you The Compass each week, and it truly is a team effort. Here are the names of those who work at our Carbonear office, and their titles:
• Kevin Hiscock — Compass manager and sales manager for NL Weeklies; • Nicholas Mercer — reporter/photographer; • Melissa Jenkins — reporter/photographer; • Daphne Hearn — advertising sales; • Jim Harris — print/online advertising sales; • Shelleen Emberley — customer service/circulation; and,
• Amanda Pike — sales and circulation co-ordinator, NL Weeklies.
On behalf of the team, I would like to wish our readers and their families, especially our devoted carriers, a wonderful and safe holiday season.
