The Compass - - NEWS - Photos by Terry Roberts/The Compass

The Town of Cupids hosted a special holiday tree lighting ceremony at the community centre on Wednesday, Dec. 4, with several dozens residents in attendance to officially kick off the Christmas season with songs, hot chocolate and cookies, and a visit from Santa Claus. Here are some images from the event.

Members of the Brigus-Cupids-Georgetown male choir provided the musical entertainment. They were led by Harold Clarke (on guitar). On the keyboard is Lena Payne.

During his welcoming remarks, Cupids Mayor Harold Akerman (left) offered thanks to members of the Bay de Grave Volunteer Fire Department, many of whom were in attendance. He is shown here with Chief Jeremy (Jake) Hall.

Lending their voices to the singing were, from left, Shirley Akerman, Isabel Morgan, Norma Butler and Phyllis Newell.

Judy Keating, a member of the recreation committee, passes out hot chocolate to five-year-old Dakota Mugford (right). Behind Dakota is her threeyear-old brother Hunter.

Members of the audience sing along to a carol sung by members of the Brigus-Cupids-Georgetown male choir.

The event attracted all ages, including three generations of the Burry family. Pictured here are Derrick Burry (left), his daughter Lindsay Andrews, grandson Ajay (age 3), and a sleepy granddaughter Ava (seven months).
