Police make drug seizure in Gull Island
A quantity of marijuana and what police are describing as a sizable amount of cash was seized following a drug raid at a private residence and garage in the Conception Bay North community of Gull Island last week.
A spokesman for the Trinity Conception RCMP said four officers executed a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
The home is located on Beach Road.
After getting no response from anyone in the house, officers discovered that a patio door was unlocked, and entered the dwelling.
Forty-seven-year-old Paul Glenn Oliver was located inside and is facing a charge of possession of cannabis marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
During the search, officers discovered roughly three-quarters of a pound of cannabis marijuana, with a street value of anywhere from a low of $ 3,000 to an extreme high of $10,000, depending on how it is sold.
Police would not be specific in the amount of cash seized, but say it was “significant.”
Drug paraphernalia such as a weigh scale and grinder were also found.
A spokesman said the accused is “known to police,” and was taken into custody without incident.
He was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Harbour Grace provincial court on March 5.
The seizure was described as “somewhat typical” of what police are seeing in the Trinity Conception area, but the spokesman added, “The north shore (of Conception Bay) is an area of concern.”
Police have executed a “number” of drug search warrants in the area, “which does indicate to us there is drug activity in that area.”
However, the spokesman emphasized that illegal drug activity is taking place throughout the region.
