Another setback for Sinyard’s

Attempted break-in Jan. 19 at site of new building

A pharmacy in Harbour Grace that has had its share of bad luck experienced yet another setback last week.

Sinyard’s Pharmacy at 17 Harvey Street experienced a horrendous fire last January, leading to the destruction of the building. The pharmacy has been operating out the former liquor store building on the same street since the incident. The estimated damage from the fire was $1 million.

In May, only a few months after the temporary set-up was established, an attempted break-in took place at the new location. A suspect was apprehended because of high quality video from surveillance footage.

Now, after three months of constructing a replacement building on the same lot where the previous building stood, another attempted break-in took place. This time, the security system was not yet installed.

The Trinity Conception RCMP received a call on the morning of Jan. 19. The attempted break-in had taken place between 8 p.m. Jan. 18 and when the call was received that morning.

Owner Madonna Rose confirmed the building was secure, and the person attempting access could not get in.

RCMP explained there is not much evidence at this time, but it was obvious someone attempted to gain access by prying the door open.

There are construction materials at the site, including power tools. No pharmaceuticals have been moved to the building.

The new building is expected to be completed in the next month, with an occupancy date of late-February, although a break-in is not something Rose is concerned about.

“We’ll be secure,” she said. “Everything is coming along… Everything is running smoothly.”
