Trin­ity-Bay de Verde roads to get facelift

As part of a $30 mil­lion road im­prove­ment pro­gram is­sued by the provin­cial govern­ment in Jan­uary, the Trin­ity-Bay de Verde re­gion will be re­ceiv­ing some sig­nif­i­cant road up­grades.

A project that will see ap­prox­i­mately five kilo­me­tres on the Heart’s Con­tent Bar­rens, one kilo­me­tre near New Mel­bourne, two kilo­me­tres near Perry’s Cove, 1.7 km on Perry’s Cove Road and one kilo­me­tre in Bay de Verde has al­ready been put out on ten­der. The clos­ing date is April 8. This is one of sev­eral projects that will be­gin in the com­ing weeks.

The an­nounce­ment was made March 21 by Min­is­ter of Trans­por tation and Works Nick McGrath in Heart’s Con­tent. He also added a t en­der w i l l be re­leased in the near fu­ture for as sec­tion of the New Har­bour Bar­rens ap­prox­i­mately, a dis­tance of roughly 2.5 km.

“I am very pleased that im­prove­ment will be made to these well-trav­elled routes in Trin­ity-Bay de Verde,” Fi­nance Min­is­ter Char­lene John­son, who is also the min­is­ter for the re­gion, said.

The $30 mil­lion was part of a pre- com­mit­ment un­der the Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion and Works al­lot­ted for the 2014-15 budget plan.

Other ten­ders on the govern­ment’s web­site in­clude road up­grades and bridge re­place­ment for Por­tu­gal Cove-St. Phillips, side­walk re­place­ment in Gan­der, wa­ter and sewer up­grades in St. Lawrence and road re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion from Labrador City to the Que­bec bor­der, among oth­ers.
