Prov­ince ac­cept­ing nom­i­nees for se­nior awards

The provin­cial govern­ment is aim­ing to rec­og­nize some of New­found­land and Labrador’s out­stand­ing se­nior cit­i­zens.

In a re­lease, the govern­ment is now ac­cept­ing nom­i­na­tions for the sixth an­nual Se­niors of Distinc­tion awards pro­gram.

“Mak­ing a pos­i­tive con­tri­bu­tion to your com­mu­nity and our prov­ince is not limited by age. Older adults are the cor­ner­stones of our so­ci­ety. They have helped make New­found­land and Labrador thrive, and their ded­i­ca­tion will en­sure the prov­ince continues to flour­ish,” said Health and Com­mu­nity Ser­vices Min­is­ter Su­san Sul­li­van.

El­i­gi­ble nom­i­nees for the award must be 50 years of age or older and be a cur­rent or past res­i­dent of the prov­ince.

Both vol­un­tary and pair work will be con­sid­ered, while nom­i­na­tions from last year may be re­viewed again this year at the re­quest of nom­i­na­tor.

It is also pos­si­ble for post­hu­mous awards may also be awarded and up to five cit­i­zens will be rec­og­nized with awards.

“The Se­niors of Distinc­tion Awards is one way in which we can all show our grat­i­tude to the people who con­tinue to help shape the fu­ture of our prov­ince. I en­cour­age ev­ery­one to nom­i­nate a de­serv­ing se­nior in your com­mu­nity,“said Sul­li­van.

The dead­line for nom­i­na­tions is May 23.
