New opportunity for former stadium manager
Vacant positions not yet filled in Harbour Grace
The woman who abruptly resigned as the arena manager in Harbour Grace this past winter after just weeks on the job has landed a similar position in Paradise.
Jennifer Janes will be the facility manager for Paradise’s new stadium, which is expected to open this fall.
Conrad Freake, director of recreation and leisure services with the Town of Paradise confirmed Janes’ appointment in an email.
“The Town of Paradise has appointed Jennifer Janes to the position of facility manager to manage the day to day operations of the new double ice surface arena scheduled to open this September. Jennifer comes highly recommended having a diverse background in working in various management roles in all areas of recreation and at various government levels,” Freake wrote.
According to the job description, Janes will be responsible for a variety of things from marketing and maintenance to general operation.
Meanwhile, the search in Harbour Grace to replace Janes and former chief administrative officer (CAO) Ashley Janes is ongoing.
Both women left their jobs Jan. 23, citing job restrictions with the high-profile stadium manager posi- tion.
The town has been actively recruiting replacements since.
Although details have been scarce, The Compass has learned there were more applicants for the positions this time around compared with last year. The application deadline was March 18.
Mayor Terry Barnes said the hiring process is almost complete, but wouldn’t give too much detail.
He did, however, confirm interviews have taken place.
A public council meeting for April 23 was postponed until April 30. At that time, it is expected more details will be available on the appointment of a new facilities manager and CAO.
Jennifer Janes of Carbonear will begin her new role as facility manager at the new two ice surface stadium in Paradise.
