Bay Ladies fall short in provincial title bid
The Bay Ladies fell just shy of the Division I female title after a 55-54 defeat at the hands of Toyota in the Division I provincial tournament held at Laval High School in Placentia May 3-4.
It was a great showing of the group, comprised mostly of players from the Placentia region, against some of the top female competition in the province.
Kendell Kavanagh paced the Bay Ladies’ offence with 14 points, while Robyn O’Reilly chipped in 11 points.
Kim Devinson led the charge for Toyota with 16 points. She was aided in scoring by Kate Deveraux (13 points) and Marik Valenzen ( 12 points).
Toyota’s Amy Costello was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
The game was a rematch of the opening round robin game, which saw the Bay Ladies earn a 10-point victory ( 66- 56) over eventual champs. The Bay Ladies finished the round robin with an undefeated record, with wins over Dynamic Physio (70-54) and the provincial under-17 female team (75-35).
