‘Super’ review for Bay Roberts weekend
It was another successful Super Sports Weekend in Bay Roberts July 18-20. What has traditionally been one of the largest sporting events of its kind in Conception Bay North, Super Sports got even bigger this year. The event added a pair of Metro Leauge soccer matches, the annual provincial swim meet and the inaugural 10 kilometre Carved By The Sea road race. Using venus in Bay Roberts, Harbour Grace and Upper Island Cove, Super Sports resembled a mini-Summer Games, as more than a dozen teams in various sports made their way to the communities. On the afternoon of July 19, the ball field at the Wilbur Sparkes Recreation Complex was renamed the Langdon Critch Memorial Field. In the end, Booster Juice walked away with the coveted men’s softball title, vowing to return next year in the process. Organizers of the event said it was “very successful” and are looking forward to building the event in the future. The Compass was there and captured these images.

The Placentia squirts race was unique, since it saw one girls team face off against one boys team for bragging rights. Both teams earned a gold medal, but it was the Placentia Barry’s Value Grocer girls who took the win. Members of the team include, front (l-r) — Kayleigh Careen and Laura Gambin-Ryan; middle —Madison O’Keefe, Olivia Fitzpatrick, Mackenzie Kerrivan, Brooke Lannon and Cate Wadman; back — coxswain Matt Foley.
