Eastlink CeeBee Stars submit roster to Avalon East league

The Eastlink CeeBee Stars are looking to get back into the Avalon East Senior Hockey League.

This is after the team submitted a prospective roster of players to the league for approval.

“The common goal is to get back playing this fall,” said Saunders.

The process started two weeks ago with a conference call between CeeBees representatives, the Mount Pearl Blades, the AESHL and HNL senior council. “It was good dialogue,” said CeeBees’ executive president Nick Saunders.

At the conclusion of the call, the CeeBees were given just over a week to submit a proposed roster of players.

Over the last week, the team has sent numerous emails, text messages and phone calls to prospective players.

“The set up is different in terms of player eligibility,” said Saunders.

The team even took a look at the roster from the last CeeBees team to appear in the East league. With most of the legwork completed, the CeeBees submitted their list on July 31 for approval.

Roster hopefuls

While the president would not divulge the complete list of players submitted, he did make note of a handful of players.

Under the East system, teams are intended to be community based. Saunders said local players like Fred Earle (Carbonear), Daniel Sparkes (Harbour Grace), Cody Roach (Bay Roberts) and Steven Greeley (Upper Island Cove) are included.

“They came up in our two ( feeder) systems,” he said.

The team is a lso s eeking approval for longtime CeeBees Freddie Diamond and Chris Sparkes.

“It’s moving in a positive direction,” said Saunders.

There is still no word on either CeeBees’ captain Mike Dyke or leading scorer Jordan Escott, although some senior hockey observers believe they may end up in the upstart Central-West Senior Hockey League.

This recent news is sure to be well-received by the CeeBees’ faithful and sponsors alike.

While there is no certainty that the Avalon East league will accept the team’s overtures, Saunders was cautiously optimistic there will be senior hockey being played out of the S.W. Moores Memorial Stadium in the fall.

“I feel we’re going to have hockey,” he said.
