Female soccer captures silver medal
Everybody had a role
The coach said a key to victory for his team was the balance in his lineup and everyone chipping in.
From the seniors to the freshman, each player understood what was expected of them and performed.
“We had 12 guys and each one had a role to paly and every guy accepted that role. It was a team effort all the way,” said Gambin. “When anyone was having a struggle at the plate or in the field, there was always someone there to pick up the slack.”
The Laval male team was not the only Placentia-based team to benefit from a bit of home cooking.
The Cavalier’s female soccer team secured the silver medal after a tight 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mobile High.
In the round robin, Laval went undefeated posting wins over Stephenville High (3-1) and Indian River High of Springdale (1-0) before defeating St. Lawrence Academy 2-0 in the semis.
“The girls played their hearts out,” said coach Gordon Pike.
Members of the team are: Shauna Griffiths, Brittany McCarthy, Bailey Lannon, Cassie Cheeseman, Heather Pike, Alison Kelly, Abigail Gambin, Ashley O’Keefe, Hilary Neville, Sarah Kerrivan, Tyra Lannon, Lauren Kelly, Cassidy Barry, Emily O’Keefe, Mackenzie LeonardPower, Brooklyn McCarthy, Hailey Fudge, Amber Barron and Mikayla Vanderkamer.
