Bay Roberts Lions Club Christmas Parade
The annual Bay Roberts Lions Club Christmas Parade takes place Saturday, Dec. 6, starting at 10 a.m. Non-perishable food items will be collected for The Helping Hand’s food bank.
Lower Island Cove Christmas event
The Flambro Head Heritage Society will hold its “Celebrating the Spirit of Christmas” event Saturday, Dec. 6, starting at 8 p.m. Doors opens at the Heritage Hall in Lower Island Cove at 7:30 p.m. There is an admission charge, and refreshments will be served throughout the evening. Come along and enjoy an evening of skits, songs and music.
Kevin Collins will perform an ‘Up Close and Personal’ concert Sunday, Dec. 7, at St. George’s Heritage Church in Brigus. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets available at Marshall’s Cornerstop in South River. Call 528 4817 for more information.
Old time country music jam
The Whitbourne Lions Club is hosting its monthly Sunday afternoon of fun and fabulous old time country music Dec. 7 at the Lions Club in Whitbourne. Doors open at 1 p.m. and the excitement starts at 2 p.m. Join other performers at the open mic or bring your instrument and play along or just tap your feet to that great old country beat. Have a wonderful afternoon of fun and musical memories at the Whitbourne Old Time Country Music Hoedown. Enjoy the beginning of winter fun at the Whitbourne Open Mic Show.
Seniors card game
There will be a Free Seniors Card Game at the Royal Canadian Legion in Carbonear on Tuesday, Dec. 9, starting at 8 p.m. All are welcome, and a light lunch will be served. For more info, call 596-3691.
Victoria Lions Christmas Parade
The parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, beginning at 10 a.m. Line up will begin at the Persalvic parking lot.
Legion jam session
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32 Bay Roberts located on Water Street will host a jam session on Saturday, Dec. 13, starting at 3 p.m. All welcome to come and enjoy great local talent.
Carbonear Santa Claus Parade
The parade will take place Dec. 14. If any groups are interested in entering a float please see any member of the Carbonear Volunteer Fire Department. Penny’s Courier will again be collecting for the local food bank during the parade.
Craft and bake sale
There will be a craft and bake sale on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Lion’s Club in Bay Roberts between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. A fundraiser for Mollie’ Dream.
Lions Club open mic
The Shearstown Lions Club will host its monthly Sunday afternoon open mic Dec. 14. Doors Open at 1 p.m. and the music starts at 2 p.m. Canteen service will be available.
New Year’s Eve dinner
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32 Bay Roberts located on Water Street will hold its New Year’s Eve dinner and dance on Wednesday, Dec. 31. Tickets to go on sale very shortly, please call the Legion at 786-2075 and leave your name and phone number. All welcome to attend.

Placentia playground project
The Southeast Playground Improvement Committee idea to improve the Wayne John Searle Memorial Recreation Complex in Placentia has made it to the semi-final round of the Aviva Community Fund Competition. WE can potentially earn up to $50,000 to purchase new equipment for the playground. To make the finals, we are asking residents of the Trinity, Conception and Placentia bays to vote daily Dec. 1-10. Immaculate Conception church research
The Diocese of Grand Falls and the Parish Council of Immaculate Conception Parish Harbour Grace are looking for volunteers interested in uncovering new and creative potential uses for Immaculate Conception Church. The diocese and the Parish Council came to the difficult decision to close the historic church, but hope a new use or purpose respecting the sacred character of the church can be found.
