CBN youth receives one-year sentence for sexual assault
A Conception Bay North youth guilty of committing sexual assault will spend the next year of his life in a correctional facility.
This is after Judge Jacqueline Brazil sentenced the him to 12 months of secure custody and six months of supervision, along with 18 months probation.
The convicted youth must also submit a DNA sample
“Rehabilitation is my primary concern,” said Brazil.
Two weeks ago, he was convicted on seven charges of sexual assault, including sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching. There is also a charge of possessing child pornography.
There were originally eight charges, but one of the child pornography charges was removed due to its duplicitous nature.
“The facts of the case are disturbing,” said Brazil.
The details of the case, including the name of the convicted and the victims, are protected by court order.
The convicted has been in custody at the Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Centre in Whitbourne since Sept. 2. It is where he will stay for the remainder of his sentence.
It is believed the family of the youth will file an appeal, but that has not been confirmed at this time.
