Too many cod for Whit­bourne man

A man from Whit­bourne has been con­victed for catch­ing too many cod­fish dur­ing the most re­cent recre­ational food fish­ery.

Frank Jones was con­victed on Oct. 22, ac­cord­ing to a Depart­ment of Fish­eries and Oceans news re­lease is­sued Thurs­day. He was con­victed for catch­ing and re­tain­ing more than the al­low­able daily catch limit.

The max­i­mum al­low­able catch is five fish per day dur­ing the sum­mer and fall fish­eries. Jones caught 15 fish.

Jones was fined $1,000 in Har­bour Grace provin­cial court. He is also banned from tak­ing part in any recre­ational fish­ery for 12 months.
